A few minutes later, David Brooks turned the tide, scoring Bournemouth’s second goal in the 68th minute. Just as when everyone thought the game was over, Newcastle won a penalty in stoppage time.
Anthony Gordon converted from the spot in the 90+5 minute, levelling the score to 2-2 and forcing the knockout clash to go into extra time.
Barnes thought he had won it when he scored the home side’s third goal in the 118th minute, assisted by Gordon. However, Marcus Tavernier scored the equalising goal in the 120+2 minute, assisted by Alejandro Jimenez.

Despite the setback, the visitors continued to attack until the hosts succumbed to pressure in stoppage time. Kluivert extended Bournemouth’s lead to 3-1 in the 90+2 minute, assisted by Tyler Adams.
As if that was not enough, Kluivert then provided the assist when Milos Kerkez registered his name on the scoresheet. Kerkez changed the score to 4-1 in the 90+6 minute.
