Harvey Barnes is Newcastle United’s super sub in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. The English winger has made a significant impact coming off the bench in the first few matches of the elite European league.

Barnes, born on 9 December 1997 in Burnley, has not been a regular starter this season for Newcastle United, but he has scored vital goals whenever his coach uses him as a replacement.

The star has scored more goals than regular starters in the annual and most prestigious club tournament in Europe. Eddie Howe prefers using Barnes as his go-to substitute because of his ability to read and change the course of the game.

Harvey Barnes Shines in Newcastle vs Benfica Match

Harvey Barnes played only 27 minutes when Newcastle United thrashed Benfica 3-0 on matchday three of the UEFA Champions League at St James’ Park on 21 October 2025.

Barnes, who replaced Jacob Murphy in the 63rd minute, scored two crucial goals for Newcastle on the night. His side was leading 1-0 when Howe introduced him.

The talented winger found the back of the net in the 70th minute, doubling the home side’s score to 2-0. In the 83rd minute, Barnes put the game beyond Benfica’s reach when he scored the third goal.

Newcastle secured maximum points in the showdown, thanks to Barnes’ two goals.

Harvey Barnes Scores in Union Saint-Gilloise vs Newcastle United Clash

Despite only playing the last 18 minutes of the encounter against Union Saint-Gilloise on matchday two of the Champions League, Harvey Barnes managed to get his name on the scoresheet.

Barnes replaced Anthony Elanga in the 72nd minute at Lotto Park in Belgium. He found the back of the net with a clinical shot in the 80th minute, giving Newcastle United a 4-0 lead.

Harvey Barnes Stats in the Premier League

At the time of publishing, Harvey Barnes had made nine appearances in the Premier League for Newcastle United in the 2025/26 season. The attacking footballer had not scored or assisted in the league. He had just one assist in one match in the 2025/26 EFL Cup.

Barnes had a successful 2024/25 Premier League campaign. He netted nine goals and provided four assists in 33 appearances. Barnes was in the starting XI when Newcastle United beat Liverpool 2-1 in the EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 16 March 2025.
