Lukas Podolski scored a brace in the thriller, helping the Gunners progress to the next round of the competition. Podolski opened the scoring in the 15th minute and then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 27th minute.

Olivier Giroud, who is one of the top scorers in the French national team, extended the Gunners’ lead to 3-0 in the 84th minute. Santi Cazorla then scored the fourth goal in the 89th minute.

Arsenal 6-1 Coventry

Arsenal humiliated Coventry 6-1 in the Capital One Cup at the Emirates Stadium on 26 September 2012.

Coventry put up a good fight in the first half, keeping a good shape to deny the Gunners scoring opportunities. However, Olivier Giroud broke the deadlock in the 39th minute. The hosts took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break.

Thierry Henry broke the deadlock in the 50th minute when the visitors’ defence finally crumbled under the Gunners’ pressure. Gilles Grimandi then doubled the Gunners’ lead in the 79th minute.

Nigeria national football team legend Nwankwo Kanu put the final nail in Coventry’s coffin in the 80th minute, ensuring Arsenal secured three crucial points in the 3-0 victory.
