Kylian Mbappé made history when he scored his 52nd goal in France’s colours on Tuesday, 9 September 2025. The Real Madrid superstar is now France’s second all-time leading goal scorer.
Mbappé was tied with French legend Thierry Henry on 51 goals before the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Iceland. The former PSG forward levelled the score for Les Bleus in the last minute of the first half.
Didier Deschamps’ side was trailing after Andri Gudjohnsen gave Iceland the lead in the 21st minute. Mbappé also earned an assist in the 62nd minute when he set up Bradley Barcola’s goal, which made it 2-1 for France.
Iceland was thrown a lifeline when Aurelien Tchouameni was shown a red card in the 67th minute. Iceland took full advantage and thought they had equalised in the 88th minute, but the goal was disallowed after a VAR review. There was a foul before Gudjohnsen scored.
They continued attacking until the last whistle, but France defended their advantage. Mbappé was even given a yellow card in the dying minutes of the match.
