Germany has finally recorded the first win of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. Die Mannschaft thumped Northern Ireland 3-1 on Sunday, 7 September 2026.
Going into the halftime break, the score was level at 1-1 after Isaac Price cancelled Serge Gnabry’s early lead. Gnabry had scored in the seventh minute of the first half.

In the second half, Julian Nagelsmann’s men shifted gears and took control of the second game of their campaign. Nadiem Amiri put Germany back in the lead in the 69th minute with a wonder strike. Adding to his country’s tally, Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz scored a curling free kick in the 72nd minute, making the score 3-1.
The Germans enjoyed an 80% ball possession in the second half and had six shots on target. It showed that Germany wanted to win more than their counterparts following their disappointing game against Slovakia.

Has Germany Lost Any 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier?
After a dismal performance against Slovakia, the Germans were looking to redeem themselves. Slovakia stunned the football powerhouse 2-0 on Thursday, 4 June 2025, in the opening match of Group A. The group consists of four countries: Northern Ireland, Slovakia, Luxembourg, and Germany.
Coming into today’s match, Germany were sitting at the bottom of their group with no points and two goals against them. Their opponents beat Luxembourg 3-1 in their opening match.

Germany vs Northern Ireland: Last Two Matches
The two sides last met in 2019 in the Euro qualifiers. Germany thumped Northern Ireland 6-1 on 19 November 2025. Bayern Munich’s Serge Gnabry scored a hat-trick in the showdown.
In the first leg on 9 September 2025, Germany beat their hosts 2-0. Serge Gnabry was also on target in that encounter. Former German footballer Marcel Halsternberg also netted for his country on the day.
