Slovakia stunned the mighty Germany 2-0 in a 2026 World Cup qualifying match at Tehelné Pole on Thursday, 4 September.
Going into the halftime break, the Germans were trailing 1-0. David Hancko put Slovakia in the lead in the 42nd minute. Hancko beat the keeper with an educated shot into the bottom left corner.
Slovakia’s David Strelec scored a spectacular second goal for his country in the 55th minute. There was nothing the goalkeeper could do to stop that excellently measured shot into the top left corner. Slovakia defeated the four-time World Cup champions 2-0.
The star-studded Germany line-up included stars such as Florian Wirtz of Liverpool, Antonio Rüdiger of Real Madrid, and Serge Gnabry of Bayern Munich.

Did Germany Win Anything Before the Slovakia vs Germany Match?
Before this match, Germany lost two crucial showdowns against France and Portugal in the UEFA Nations League playoffs. Playing for bronze, Julian Nagelsmann’s side was beaten 2-0 by France in the third-place play-off. Prolific striker Kylian Mbappe scored both goals.
Germany was also defeated by Portugal in the semifinal of the same competition on 4 June. Even though they scored early in the second half, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal scored two quick goals in the 63rd and 68th minutes, which saw them play in the final against Spain.

Slovakia vs Germany: Last Two Matches
The two nations last met in 2016. Germany thumped Slovakia 3-0 in the quarter finals of the Euros on 26 June. In a friendly international on 29 May, Slovakia defeated their hosts 3-1.
Coming into Thursday’s encounter, Slovakia had lost their last two games. In a friendly international, they lost 1-0 to Israel on 10 June at Nagyerdei Stadion. On 7 June, Greece demolished their visitors, Slovakia, 4-1 in another friendly international.
