Danny da Costa rescued a point for Mainz in a dramatic Bundesliga clash against Hoffenheim at Mewa Arena on Friday, 21 November 2025.
Da Costa, who replaced Lennard Maloney in the 46th minute, scored from a rebound in the 76th minute, levelling the score to 1-1.
Ihlas Bebou, who came on in the 90th minute, thought he had won it for Hoffenheim in the 90+7 minute, but Sascha Stegemann disallowed the goal for handball.
There was also drama in the 88th minute when Stegemann sent off Dominik Kohr. He had initially shown Kohr a yellow card, but changed his decision after reviewing the incident via the VAR.
Mainz’s Andreas Hanche-Olsen gifted Hoffenheim an early lead when he headed the ball into his own net in the 9th minute.
Mainz remains in the 17th spot following the draw. They’ve won just once in 11 games. Hoffenheim are ranked sixth with 20 points. They’ve won six, drawn two, and lost three matches.
