Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s first-half goal sealed Everton’s victory against Manchester United despite Idrissa Gueye’s bizarre red card at Old Trafford on Monday.
Dewsbury-Hall found the back of the net in the 29th minute after Idrissa Gueye’s unusual sending off in the 13th minute. Gueye got red-carded for violent conduct after slapping his own teammate, Michael Keane.
Gueye has since issued an apology to Keane and his teammates, adding that he takes full responsibility for his reaction.
“What happened does not reflect who I am or the values I stand for,” he said.
Despite playing with 10 men for over 77 minutes, Everton managed to secure maximum points in the Round 12 thriller. Ruben Amorim’s charges enjoyed a 70% ball possession, but failed to unlock Everton’s solid defence.
Out of United’s 25 shots, only six efforts were on target. Everton converted their only shot on target into a goal in the 29th minute.
Jordan Pickford, who intervened in the clash between Keane and Gueye, was absolutely outstanding, pulling off six crucial saves.
Everton, who occupy the 11th spot in the Premier League table, have accumulated 18 points from five wins and three draws. Man U, who rank 10th, also have 18 points from five wins and three draws.
