Martin Ødegaard’s stats in the European World Cup Qualifiers are a testament to his quality and leadership skills on a soccer pitch.

The Norwegian captain finished the UEFA qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with the most assists, despite only making appearances in five games out of eight.

The Arsenal midfielder’s vital assists helped Norway qualify for their first World Cup in nearly three decades. They last participated in the soccer spectacle in 1998 in France.

Norway won eight out of eight games in Group I, finishing on top with 24 points and scoring a whopping 37 goals. Ødegaard didn’t participate in the last three matches because of injury.

Ødegaard assisted Haaland twice in the first half. He produced an assist when the Man City star scored the third goal in the 36th minute, and when he netted Norway’s fourth goal in the 43rd minute.

Two minutes after his second assist of the match, Ødegaard found the back of the net in the 54+1 minute. Norway went on to win the fixture 11-1, securing three vital points.

Martin Ødegaard put on a man-of-the-match performance in Norway’s six-goal thriller against Israel on 25 March 2025.

Ødegaard produced the first assist of the match when David Møller Wolfe scored Norway’s lead in the 39th minute.

He recorded his second assist when Alexander Sorloth scored Norway’s second goal in the 59th minute, changing the score to 2-1.

The Arsenal star also assisted Haaland when he scored their nation’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute. Norway ultimately won the encounter 4-2.

Did Martin Ødegaard Assist in Norway’s First Match With Moldova?

Norway thrashed Moldova in their opening match of the European World Cup Qualifiers on 22 March 2025. Martin Ødegaard once again played a vital role in the encounter, ensuring that Norway recorded their first three points.

The captain found Sorloth inside the box with an inch-perfect corner in the 43rd minute. Sorloth scored the header from close range, extending Norway’s lead to 4-0.

Ødegaard’s assist helped Norway defeat Moldova 5-0, giving them a confidence boost for the rest of the European qualification phase.
