Wolves 3-4 Chelsea: David Møller Wolfe brace not enough as Enzo Maresca’s side advances to quarter-finals of EFL Cup

Chelsea advanced to the EFL Cup quarter-finals by defeating Wolves 4-3, with Jamie Gittens’ standout performance and crucial goals from David Møller Wolfe.

David Møller Wolfe’s brace was not enough as Chelsea advanced to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup after edging Wolves 4-3 on Wednesday, 29 October 2025.

Jamie Gittens put on a man-of-the-match performance at the Molineux Stadium, assisting in both Chelsea’s first and second goals, and scoring a beauty with the outside of his boot from outside the box in the 89th minute.

It took only five minutes for Andrey Santos to score Chelsea’s first goal, and Tyrique George doubled the score in the 15th minute, making the score 2-0.

Many thought that it was going to be a walk in the park for Chelsea when Estêvão scored the third goal in the 41st minute. Enzo Maresca’s side went into the halftime break leading 3-0.

It was a different story in the second half, with the home side giving Chelsea a run for their money. Toluwalase Arokodare reduced the deficit in the 48th minute, altering the score to 3-1.

Wolfe’s wonderful left-footed strike kissed the inside of the net in the 73rd minute, giving hope to the Wolves faithful. Liam Delap, who came on in the 60th minute, got sent off in the 86th minute after receiving his second yellow card for elbowing a defender.

David Møller Wolfe Scores His Second Goal

As Wolves went all out searching for an equaliser, Gittens extended Chelsea’s lead to 4-2. Wolfe gave Wolves something to smile about and hope when he scored his second goal in the 90+1 minute, changing the score to 4-3.

Chelsea then defended their one-goal advantage until the last whistle. Maresca’s charges are through to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup.

In their last match, Wolves lost 3-2 to Burnley in the ninth round of the Premier League on 26 October 2025. The visitors’ Zian Flemming scored a brace in the 14th and 30th minutes, giving Burnley a 2-0 lead at Molineux Stadium.

Wolves fought their way back into the match with goals from Jorgen Strand Larsen and Marshall Munetsi, ensuring a 2-2 draw going into the break.

Bafana Bafana striker Lyle Foster broke the hearts of the Wolves faithful when he scored the winner in the 90+5 minute, altering the score to 3-2.

Chelsea Latest Results

In their previous match, Chelsea was stunned 2-1 by Sunderland on matchday nine of the Premier League on 25 October 2025. It took only four minutes for Alejandro Garnacho to open the scoring for the hosts at Stamford Bridge.

Wilson Isidor responded for Sunderland in the 22nd minute, changing the score to 1-1. Chemsdine Talbi sent the away fans into a frenzy when he scored a winner in the 90+3 minute.

Wolves vs Chelsea: Head-to-Head

Chelsea dominated Wolves in their last two meetings. In their last match on 20 January 2025, Chelsea brushed aside Wolves 3-1 in Round 22 of last season’s Premier League.

Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring in the 24th minute, making the score 1-0 to Chelsea. The visitors equalised in the 45+5 minute through Matt Doherty’s goal.

Chelsea changed gears in the second half, scoring two more goals. Marc Cucurella scored Chelsea’s second goal in the 60th minute. Noni Madueke extended Chelsea’s lead five minutes later, altering the score to 3-1.

In the second round of the 2023/25 season on 25 August 2024, Chelsea demolished Wolves 6-2. The score was level at 2-2 going into the halftime break.

Noni Madueke had a perfect second half, scoring a total of three goals. Cole Palmer, who scored Chelsea’s second goal, assisted in all Madueke’s goals. Nicolas Jackson netted Chelsea’s first goal in the 2nd minute, and João Félix scored Chelsea’s last goal in the 80th minute.
