Orlando Pirates are through to the semi-finals of the Carling Knockout after edging Magesi 2-1 at Orlando Stadium on Tuesday, 28 October 2025.
Tshepang Moremi put Orlando Pirates in the lead in the 51st minute from Nkosikhona Ndaba’s assist. Evidence Makgopa, who replaced Yanela Mbuthuma in the 68th minute, doubled Bucs’ lead in the 88th minute.
John Mokone pulled one back for Magesi in the 90+5 minute, but it was too late to stage a comeback. Pirates knocked Magesi out of the competition with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.
After Moremi’s goal, Magesi went in search of an equaliser and nearly got it in the 54th minute when Abbey Seseane’s strike rattled the crossbar.
A minute before Pirates opened the scoring, in-form Bafana Bafana star Oswin Appollis’ long-range shot also hit the crossbar in the 50th minute. The crossbar had also prevented Lehlegonolo Mokone from scoring in the early minutes of the second half.

In their last match on 25 October 2025, St Eloi Lupopo knocked Orlando Pirates out of the CAF Champions League. Bucs lost the game on penalties. In the first leg in DRC, Lupopo surprisingly thumped Pirates 3-0.
The South African giants won the second leg 3-0 at home, taking the match to penalties. Unfortunately for Orlando Pirates, it ended in tears when Lupopo defeated them on penalties.
Magesi Latest Results
In their previous game, Magesi edged TS Galaxy 2-1 in a Betway Premiership encounter on 18 October 2025. TS Galaxy scored the first goal via Veluyeke Zulu in the 65th minute.
In an epic comeback, the home side managed to secure three points after going down 1-0. Lehlegonolo Mokone equalised for Magesi in the 71st minute. Thabang Sibanyoni scored the winner in the 81st minute, sending their fans into a frenzy.

Orlando Pirates vs Magesi: Head-to-Head
Orlando Pirates and Magesi shared the spoils in their last match on 28 May 2025. The Sea Robbers and the visiting side played a 1-1 draw in Round 27 of the Betway Premiership.
Both teams scored goals in the first half of the clash. Patrick Maswanganyi found the back of the net in the 7th minute, giving Bucs an early 1-0 lead. Magesi’s Edmore Chirambadare equalised for his side in the 32nd minute.
In another match on 29 December 2024, Orlando Pirates edged Magesi 1-0. Magesi were reduced to 10 men in the 39th minute when Lehlegonolo Mokone received a red card.
Relebohile Mofokeng scored Pirates’ only goal in the 45th minute of the Round 11 Betway Premiership encounter. Just before the halftime break, Magesi missed a huge opportunity to level the score. Wonderboy Makhubu missed from the penalty spot in the 45+6 minute.
