Kaizer Chiefs is out of the Carling Knockout after losing to Stellenbosch 5-4 on penalties in the first round of the competition on Sunday, 5 October 2025.
Chiefs and Stellenbosch played a goalless 90 minutes, and both sides also failed to find the back of the net in extra time. The Glamour Boys had a huge advantage in the shootout when Andre de Jong missed Stellenbosch’s first penalty kick.
However, Kaizer Chiefs’ Tashreeq Morris and Dillan Solomons also missed the target during the penalty shootout. Stellenbosch advanced to the next round of the tournament after knocking out Chiefs.
Stellenbosch joins Durban City, Orlando Pirates, TS Galaxy, Golden Arrows, Marumo Gallants, and Richards Bay in the next round of the Carling Cup. Magesi was also leading AmaZulu 2-0 at halftime at the time of publishing.

Before this match, Stellenbosch played a goalless draw with Chippa United on 28 September 2025. The clash was part of the Betway Premiership.

Kaizer Chiefs played a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu in their latest Betway Premiership match on 1 October 2025. AmaZulu’s Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya opened the scoring in the 21st minute.
Chiefs’ Makabi Lilepo failed to equalise in the 30th minute when he missed from the penalty spot. Mduduzi Shabalala scored the equaliser for Chiefs just two minutes after Lilepo’s miss.
Pule Mmodi nearly scored Chiefs’ second goal just before halftime, but new striker Khanyisa Mayo interfered. Instead of watching Mmodi’s shot cross the goal line, Mayo, who was clearly in an offside position, decided to touch the ball before it crossed the line.
Before the AmaZulu draw, Kaizer Chiefs edged Kabuscorp 5-4 on penalties in the second leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup. The match went into penalties after Chiefs and Kabuscorp had a 1-1 aggregate score.
Kabuscorp won the match 1-0 when Chiefs were the visitors, and Chiefs won 1-0 when they hosted Kabuscorp in South Africa.

Stellenbosch vs Kaizer Chiefs: Head-to-Head
On 10 August 2025, Kaizer Chiefs thumped ten-man Stellenbosch 2-0 in the first round of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership. Siviwe Nkwali was red-carded in the 13th minute of the match.
Kaizer Chiefs capitalised on the one-man advantage and scored two minutes after Nkwali’s sending off. Nkosingiphile Ngcobo netted in the 15th minute. Chiefs were also awarded a penalty in stoppage time. Lilepo converted from the spot in the 90+6 minute.
On 8 March 2025, Kaizer Chiefs knocked Stellenbosch out of the Nedbank Cup. The Glamour Boys won 3-1, securing their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament.
Chiefs’ Inacio Miguel scored from the spot in the 20th minute, but Andre de Jong equalised in the 86th minute. Mmodi scored Chiefs’ second in the 90+5 minute. As if that was not enough for Stellies, Mfundo Vilakazi made it 3-1 in the 90+10 minute.

- On Tuesday, 22 October 2025, Stellenbosch hosts Golden Arrows at Danie Craven Stadium. The Betway Premiership clash kicks off at 19:30.
