Kaizer Chiefs 1-1 Marumo Gallants: Khanyisa Mayo scores on debut, Gastón Sirino’s penalty saved

Khanyisa Mayo debuted for Kaizer Chiefs, scoring in a 1-1 draw against Marumo Gallants, where Gastón Sirino missed a penalty before Jaisen Clifford equalised.

Kaizer Chiefs’ new striker Khanyisa Mayo scored on debut in a 1-1 draw with Marumo Gallants in a Betway Premiership clash on Wednesday, 24 September 2025.

The one-year loanee, who spent one season in Algeria with CR Belouizdad, netted in the 39th minute of the encounter after being set up by Ashley Du Preez. Chiefs could have been 2-0 up before halftime, but Gastón Sirino failed to convert from the penalty spot in the 45th minute.

Du Preez, who had a good 82 minutes on the pitch, won the penalty for Amakhosi in the 43rd minute when he was fouled inside the box. Marumo Gallants’ goalkeeper saved Sirino’s penalty.

Kaizer Chiefs 1–1 Marumo Gallants: Who Equalised for the Visitors?

Chiefs failed to defend their one-goal lead in the second half. Jaisen Clifford equalised for the visitors in the 75th minute. Chiefs parted ways with their coach, Nasreddine Nabi, a few days ago after their first defeat of the season.

Chiefs have now drawn two matches, won four, and lost just one. They’re third on the Betway Premiership table with 14 points after seven games.

Kaizer Chiefs Latest Results in Betway Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs suffered their first defeat of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season at the hands of league leaders, Sekhukhune United, on 16 September 2025. Bradley Grobler scored the first goal for the visiting Sekhukhune in the 5th minute.

Chiefs found their way back into the game in the 13th minute when Flávio Silva equalised. It was a different story in the second half. Grobler netted his second of the game in the 50th minute.

Six minutes later, while Chiefs were still stunned by Grobler’s brace, Thabang Monare scored Sekhukhune’s third goal.

The home side made all their substitutions and tried different tactics, but it was just too late. Sekhukhune won 3-1, ending Chiefs’ unbeaten record.

In another league match on 30 September 2025, Kaizer Chiefs beat Golden Arrows 1-0. Silva scored the only goal of the Round 5 match played in Durban.

Marumo Gallants Latest Results in Betway Premiership

In their last league match on 20 September 2025, Marumo Gallants drew 1-1 with newly promoted Orbit College. The home side opened the scoring in the 10th minute of the match via Thuso Moleleki’s goal. Marumo’s Sekela Sithole scored his side’s equaliser in the 65th minute.

On 17 September 2025, Marumo Gallants also drew 1-1 with reigning champions, Mamelodi Sundowns. Iqraam Rayners scored Masandawana’s lead in the 28th minute. Keanu Cupido, unfortunately, scored an own goal in the 35th minute, gifting Marumo a much-needed equaliser.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Marumo Gallants: Head-to-Head in 2024/25 Betway Premiership

Kaizer Chiefs and Marumo Gallants’ head-to-head last season produced six goals, three goals in each of the two matches they played.

In their last fixture on 26 April 2025, Kaizer Chiefs lost 2-1 to the visiting Marumo Gallants. Amakhosi scored first through Makabi Lilepo in the 10th minute of the match. Despite the early goal, Marumo went on to beat Chiefs 2-1.

Trevor Mathiane levelled the score in the 41st minute. Marumo Gallants’ Daniel Msendani broke the hearts of Chiefs’ supporters when he scored the winning goal in the 70th minute.

On matchday one of the 2024/25 season on 14 September 2025, Chiefs edged 10-man Marumo 2-1. The hosts scored the first goal in the 8th minute of the game, but Chiefs made an epic comeback.

Mduduzi Shabalala equalised for Chiefs in the 17th minute. Young footballer Mfundo Vilakazi earned the supersub title when he netted Chiefs’ winner in the 79th minute. His goal came after just three minutes of Joseph Malongoane’s red card.
