Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 Magesi: Defending champions go top of Betway Premiership after win

Mamelodi Sundowns achieved a decisive 3-0 victory over Magesi, with Kutlwano Letlhaku and Iqraam Rayners scoring. Sundowns leads the Betway Premiership table with 14 points.

Mamelodi Sundowns delivered a masterclass when they demolished Magesi 3-0 in the Betway Premiership at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Sunday, 14 September 2025.

Miguel Cardoso’s side took the lead in the 22nd minute when 19-year-old Kutlwano Letlhaku netted his first goal of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season.

Iqraam Rayners scored a brace in the one-sided clash. The talented forward netted his first goal in the 66th minute and scored his second in the 74th minute.

Thapelo Morena recorded two assists in the match. His first assist came when Letlhaku scored, and he was also credited with an assist when Rayners scored his first goal in the encounter.

Following their 3-0 victory, the defending champions are back on top of the league table with 14 points. Sundowns has played one extra game than second-placed Sekhukhune United.

Sekhukhune have 13 points after five games, while Sundowns has collected 14 points in six games.

Mamelodi Sundowns: Latest Results in Betway Premiership

Coming into this match, Mamelodi Sundowns edged Stellenbosch 1-0 in their latest Betway Premiership clash. Peter Shalulile netted from the penalty spot in the Round 5 match on 30 August 2025.

Before that match, Mamelodi Sundowns and arch-rivals Kaizer Chiefs played a goalless draw in front of a sold-out FNB Stadium in Round 4 of the league on 27 August 2025. Neither of the Betway Premiership giants created enough goal-scoring chances in the highly anticipated encounter.

Has Magesi Won Any Matches in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership Season?

Before the Sundowns clash, Magesi had not won any matches in the current season of the Betway Premiership. Magesi had played five games, drawn three, and lost two of those.

In their last league game before the international break on 30 August 2025, Magesi played a 1-1 draw with AmaZulu. Their visitors took the lead in the 17th minute via Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya’s goal. John Mokone scored the equaliser for Magesi in the 90th minute.

Mamelodi Sundowns vs Magesi: Head-to-Head in 2025

Before today’s encounter, Mamelodi Sundowns had already beaten Magesi three times in 2025. In Round 3 of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership on 20 August 2025, Sundowns thumped Magesi 2-0. Jayden Adams and Peter Shalulile scored for Patrice Motsepe’s club on the day.

On 18 May 2025, in Round 26 of the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, Sundowns also thumped Magesi 2-0. Troubled forward Lucas Ribeiro scored both Masandawana’s goals in the first half.

Mamelodi Sundowns and Magesi also met in last season’s Betway Premiership on 22 January 2025. The Round 14 match ended 2-1 in favour of the defending champions.

Magesi scored the lead in the 12th minute, but Mamelodi Sundowns turned things around in the second half of the encounter. Lucas Ribeiro and Tashreeq Matthews scored in the last 30 minutes of the showdown, completing Sundowns’ epic comeback.
