Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns played a goalless draw at the sold-out FNB Stadium on Wednesday, 27 August. It was a disappointing result for 75,000 fans of both clubs who expected goals in the crunch encounter.

Amakhosi’s winning streak finally came to an end as both the Betway Premiership giants shared the spoils. Before this match, Nasreddine Nabi’s side had won three consecutive Betway Premiership games.

Kaizer Chiefs moved to ten points after the draw, while Sundowns increased their points to eight. Sekhukhune still tops the table on goal difference as they’re also sitting on ten points.

It remains goalless at halftime in the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns. As expected, Ka bo Yellow have enjoyed much of the ball possession in the thrilling encounter.

Miguel Cardoso’s side has had four total shots in the match and enjoyed a 63% ball possession. Out of those four shots, two were on target. On the other hand, Chiefs has had seven shots towards goal. They’ve also managed two shots on target.

Is Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi Available?

Nasreddine Nabi returns to the bench for the first time this season after a family emergency kept him away from attending the first three games. Chiefs managed to win three consecutive games despite the absence of their head coach.

Nabi, who led Chiefs to the Nedbank Cup semi-final victory against Sundowns on 13 April, was attending to family matters in Tunisia. During that period, Kaizer Chiefs won 2-0 against Stellenbosch, beat Polokwane 1-0, and also won 1-0 against Richards Bay.

Mamelodi Sundowns Lose MTN 8 Semi-Final

Mamelodi Sundowns were defeated recently in the MTN 8 semi-final. The Brazilians lost to Orlando Pirates after a penalty shootout on Saturday, 23 August. In the league, Miguel Cardoso’s side beat AmaZulu 2-0, drew 1-1 against Orlando Pirates, and won 2-0 against Magesi.

Kaizer Chiefs vs Mamelodi Sundowns, Last Two Matches

The two giants of South African football last met in the Nedbank Cup Semifinal on 13 April. Chiefs beat their nemesis 2-1 in the thrilling encounter. Sundowns scored first in the first half, but Chiefs redeemed themselves and scored two goals in the second half. Chiefs went on to lift the Nedbank Cup trophy after beating Orlando Pirates in the final.

When the two sides met in the league on 1 March, Sundowns collected all three points after beating Chiefs 1-0. Want-away striker Lucas Ribeiro’s goal separated the two rivals on the day. He scored in the 41st minute of the first half.
