Hugo Ekitike scored early in the second half as Gakpo recorded his second assist of the match. Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes made it 2-1 in the 57th minute. He scored a header from Valentino Livramento’s well-executed cross.
Newcastle’s William Osula levelled matters for his side in the 88th minute of the match. When many thought the encounter would end in a draw, Rio Ngumoha won it for Liverpool deep in injury time. He netted in from a Mohamed Salah through ball.
Liverpool Leads in First Half
Liverpool is leading Newcastle United 1-0 at halftime. Ryan Gravenberch put the visitors ahead in the 35th minute. He received the ball from Cody Gakpo and unleashed a rocket from distance.
Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon was red-carded in the dying minutes of the first half after a horrific tackle. He first received a yellow card, but the referee overturned the yellow and gave him a red card after a VAR review.
