Orlando Pirates 3-0 Stellenbosch in MTN8 final: Key players, latest results and head-to-head

Orlando Pirates put on a show in the MTN8 final at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga province on Saturday, 13 September 2025. They demolished Stellenbosch 3-0 in extra time of the thrilling clash, pocketing a cool R10 million.

On their way to making history, Tshepang Moremi scored a brace, and Tshegofatso Mabasa also netted for the Buccaneers. The Sea Robbers have now won the MTN8 four times in a row.

Orlando Pirates are the favourites to win the MTN 8 final on Saturday, 13 September 2025. Amabhakaniya will face Stellenbosch at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga province at 6 PM.

Irvin Khoza’s men will make history if they beat Stellies in the final. Orlando Pirates are chasing their fourth consecutive MTN8 trophy. After beating arch-rivals Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-final, the Buccaneers have a massive opportunity to add another silverware to their decorated trophy cabinet.

Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side made their way into the final by beating Sundowns in the penalty lottery after the second leg of the semi-final ended in a 1-1 draw on 23 August 2025. The first leg also ended in a 1-1 draw. Pirates ultimately won the penalty kicks 4-1.

On the other hand, Stellenbosch had a not-so-difficult road into the MTN8 final. Steve Barker’s charges did the damage in the first leg when they brushed aside Sekhukhune 2-0.

In the second leg on 23 August 2025, Sekhukhune and Stellenbosch played a 1-1 draw. Stellies won the semis with an aggregate score of 3-1.

Orlando Pirates vs Stellenbosch: Key Players

Orlando Pirates’ squad depth is remarkable. They have quality players in each position and have capable footballers on the bench. Going into this match, some of Orlando Pirates’ key players are Kamogelo Sebelebele, Oswin Appollis, Sipho Mbule, and Mbekezeli Mbokazi.

Sebelebele scored in the first and second legs of the semi-final against Sundowns. Mbule, Appollis, and Mbokazi had stellar performances when Bafana Bafana drew 1-1 with Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

Stellenbosch has had a couple of different scorers since the new soccer season began in August. In the past few matches, Langelihle Phili’s name has been in Stellenbosch’s scoresheet a few times.

The 20-year-old forward has scored in both the Betway Premiership and MTN8, and he’s one of the key players for Barker’s side.

Orlando Pirates travelled to Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha to meet Chippa United on 31 August 2025. Ouaddou’s men demolished Chippa 3-0 in the 2025/25 Betway Premiership clash.

Amabhakaniya’s ace, Patrick Maswanganyi, netted the first goal for his side in the 10th minute of the match. Deon Hotto made it 2-0 before the halftime break. Tshepang Moremi scored the final goal for Pirates in the 66th minute.

Stellenbosch’s Latest Results in Betway Premiership

Stellenbosch hosted Betway Premiership heavyweights Mamelodi Sundowns at Athlone Stadium on 30 August 2025. The defending champions edged their hosts 1-0.

Sundowns’ goal machine Peter Shalulile scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot in the first half’s injury time.

Orlando Pirates vs Stellenbosch: Head-to-Head in 2025

Orlando Pirates faced Stellenbosch in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership on 20 August 2025. The Buccaneers edged Stellies 1-0. Pirates’ goal poacher Kamogelo Sebelebele netted the only goal of the match in the 15th minute of the first half.

On 11 March 2025, in the 2024/25 Betway Premiership season, the two clubs played a goalless draw in Cape Town. Stellenbosch’s center-back Brian Onyango got a straight red card in the 35th minute of the first half.
