The Sea Robbers made their intentions clear when Yanela Mbuthuma opened the scoring in the 14th minute, assisted by Tshepang Moremi. 2025/26 Midfielder of the Season Oswin Appollis then doubled Pirates’ lead in the 45+1 minute, assisted by Relebohile Mofokeng.

The 2025/26 Player of the Season, Mofokeng, then extended the hosts’ score to 3-0 in the 59th minute. Nkosikhona Ndaba provided the assist.

Mofokeng, who has transferred to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, then blew a massive chance to make it 4-0. He failed to convert from the spot in the 75th minute.

Pirates took a whopping 14 shots on target in the statement victory, while the struggling AmaZulu took only one. The Buccaneers also won 10 corner kicks when they outclassed Usuthu, while the latter won only two.

Nkota, who has since transferred to Al-Ettifaq in the Saudi Pro League, broke the deadlock in the 31st minute, assisted by Relebohile Mofokeng.

Nkota then doubled Pirates’ lead in the 37th minute, again assisted by Mofokeng. Hendrick Ekstein scored AmaZulu’s consolation goal in the 90+3rd minute, changing the score to 2-1.

The hosts took four shots on target, while Usuthu took two. The Buccaneers also took 10 corner kicks in the narrow win, while AmaZulu took three.

Orlando Pirates 1-0 AmaZulu

Orlando Pirates edged ten-man AmaZulu 1-0 in a fiercely contested league clash at Orlando Stadium on 20 April 2024.

The referee reduced the visitors to ten players early in the first half after showing Abbubaker Mobara a red card for a serious foul in the 22nd minute. Excluding Mobara’s red card, the referee produced 12 yellow cards in the physical contest (eight to Pirates and four to AmaZulu).
