In an epic comeback victory, Japan edged Brazil 3-2 in a thrilling international friendly at Tokyo Stadium in Japan on 14 October 2025.

Paulo Henrique put the Brazilians ahead in the 26th minute, assisted by Bruno Guimaraes. Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli then doubled the visitors’ lead in the 32nd minute, assisted by Lucas Paqueta.

Many thought it was over for the Japanese when the Brazilians went into the halftime break leading 2-0. However, the hosts pulled off one of their greatest comeback victories in the second half.

Takumi Minamino pulled one back for the home side in the 52nd minute, changing the score to 2-1. Keito Nakamura then scored the equaliser in the 62nd minute, assisted by Junya Ito.

Ayase Ueda then sent the packed stadium into a frenzy when he scored Japan’s winning goal in the 71st minute. Ito, who was subbed on in the 54th minute, grabbed his second assist of the match when Ueda netted the third goal.

Japan won four corner kicks in the famous victory, while Brazil took only two corners in the shock defeat.

Japan 0-1 Brazil

Brazil edged Japan 1-0 in a closely contested international friendly at the National Olympic Stadium in Tokyo on 6 June 2022.

Neymar broke the deadlock late in the second half. The Brazilian superstar converted from the spot in the 77th minute.

Japan took seven corner kicks in the narrow defeat, while the star-studded Brazil took four.

Brazil trounced Japan 4-0 in another entertaining international friendly at the National Stadium in Singapore on 14 October 2014.

Neymar, who was still in his prime, netted all four goals in the thriller. The superstar, who is in Brazil’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad, opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Diego Tardelli provided the assist.

Neymar then doubled the Brazilians’ score in the 48th minute, assisted by Coutinho. In the 77th minute, he extended his nation’s lead to 3-0. Kaka then assisted Neymar in scoring the fourth goal in the 81st minute.

Japan took seven corner kicks in the humbling defeat, while Brazil took three corners in the statement victory.

Brazil hammered Japan 3-0 in a thrilling FIFA Confederations Cup showdown at Arena BRB Mane Garrincha on 15 June 2013.

Neymar opened the scoring in the 3rd minute, sending a clear message to the visiting Japan team. Paulinho then doubled the hosts’ lead in the 48th minute.
