AC Milan 1-0 Lazio: Rafael Leão’s goal powers the Rossoneri to the summit of Serie A

Rafael Leão’s goal lifted AC Milan to the top of Serie A, while coach Massimiliano Allegri was sent off late. Milan now has 28 points, leading Roma.

Rafael Leão’s goal against Lazio at the San Siro powered AC Milan to the top of Serie A on Saturday.

Leão struck in the 51st minute from a close-range strike. Fikayo Tomori assisted the Portuguese footballer. Leão also came close to scoring in the 63rd minute, but Ivan Provedel denied him with a marvelous save.

The Rossoneri coach, Massimiliano Allegri, received a straight red card in the 90+7 minute for interfering with the referee.

Allegri was sent off at the time referee Giuseppe Collu was using VAR to check whether Strahinja Pavlovic had handled the ball in the box. Lazio did not get the penalty after the VAR review.

AC Milan moved to the summit of Serie A after their victory. They jumped from 25 points to 28 points, leapfrogging Roma at the top of Serie A.

Allegri’s side has won eight out of 13 matches. They’ve drawn four and lost one match. Roma ranks second with 27 points and a game in hand. Lazio occupies the eighth position with 18 points following the defeat.

In their previous Serie A fixture on 23 November 2025, AC Milan edged Inter Milan 1-0 at San Siro. Christian Pulisic netted the winning goal in the 54th minute.

Hakan Calhanoglu failed to convert from the spot in the 74th minute. Mike Maignan pulled off a magnificent save to deny Calhanoglu, ensuring that the Rossoneri secured maximum points in the Milan Derby.

In their last league match on 23 November 2025, Lazio defeated Lecce 2-0 at Stadio Olimpico. Matteo Guendouzi put Lazio in the driver’s seat when he scored the first goal in the 29th minute.

Tijjani Noslin ensured that the home side secured three points in the encounter when he doubled the score in the 90+5 minute.

AC Milan vs Lazio: Head-to-Head

In their previous Serie A clash on 2 March 2025, Lazio edged 10-man AC Milan 2-1 at San Siro.

Mattia Zaccagni opened the scoring in the 28th minute, giving Lazio a 1-0 lead at the halftime break. Milan’s Strahinja Pavlovic received a straight red in the 67th minute after tripping an opponent.

The Rossoneri fought back into the game despite Pavlovic’s red card, with Samuel Chukwueze equalising in the 84th minute.

However, Lazio won a penalty at the death, and Pedro converted from the spot. Pedro’s 90+8-minute goal snatched all three points in the match.

In another Serie A fixture on 31 August 2024, Lazio and AC Milan drew 2-2 at Stadio Olimpico.

Pavlovic opened the scoring in the 8th minute after Christian Pulisic found him with a precise corner. However, Taty Castellanos levelled the score in the 62nd minute.

Boulaye Dia then put Lazio ahead four minutes later. He changed the score to 2-1. Rafael Leão responded for AC Milan, making it 2-2 in the 72nd minute.
