Yanela Mbuthuma’s stats are impressive since he relocated from KwaZulu-Natal to Johannesburg in Gauteng. The new Orlando Pirates forward has been scoring crucial goals since joining the club in June 2025.
Despite being used as a substitute in most matches, Mbuthuma has been able to help his side win important matches in all competitions in the 2025/26 season.
The former Richards Bay player understands his coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou’s, tactics and plays his role accordingly. The young player makes an immediate impact when Ouaddou introduces him in the second half.
From the bench, the young star can read the game very well and can find gaps in the opposition’s defence when he gets his time on the pitch.
Mbuthuma, born on 21 January 2002 according to the Pirates website, has scored twice in the Betway Premiership, and a few football clubs from the African continent recently got to learn what he’s capable of.

Yanela Mbuthuma played a vital role when Orlando Pirates thumped Golden Arrows 3-1 in a Betway Premiership match at King Zwelithini Stadium on 5 October 2025.
The star, who came on in the 64th minute, scored two crucial goals, helping the visitors secure maximum points in the clash. Mbuthuma found the back of the net in the 73rd minute and also netted in the 87th minute.
Did Yanela Mbuthuma Score in the CAF Champions League Qualifiers?
Yanela Mbuthuma also found the back of the net when Orlando Pirates got knocked out in the qualification round of the CAF Champions League.
The centre forward netted the second goal when the South African giants beat St Eloi Lupopo 3-0 in the second leg of the qualifier on 25 October 2025.
Unfortunately for Mbuthuma and the Buccaneers, St Eloi Lupopo ultimately won the fixture on penalties after a 3-3 aggregate score.
Mbuthuma also scored a brace when the Sea Robbers thrashed Lioli 4-0 in the second leg of another CAF Champions League qualifier on 27 September 2025.
The star scored Pirates’ third goal in the 78th minute and netted the fourth goal two minutes later.
