Manchester City humiliated Manchester United 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium in Round 4 of the 2025/26 Premier League season on Sunday, 14 September 2025.
Pep Guardiola’s charges outclassed Rubin Amorin’s side when they recorded their second win of the new season. Lethal goalscorer Erling Haaland put on a player-of-the-match performance in a dominant second-half performance by City.
Manchester City took the lead in the 18th minute when Phil Foden scored a close-range header after connecting with Jeremy Doku’s inch-perfect cross.
Haaland made it 2-0 in the 53rd minute when he cheekily chipped the ball over the oncoming goalkeeper. He was played through by Jeremy Doku, who got two assists in the clash.
Manchester United’s Bryan Mbeumo Keeps Trying
One of the outstanding United players in the encounter, Bryan Mbeumo, saw his brilliantly executed first-time volley from inside the box stunningly saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma in the 61st minute.
In the 64th minute, Haaland’s first-time shot with the outside of his left boot was saved by Altay Bayindir. Haaland was not done yet at that moment.
The Norwegian forward made it 3-0 in the 68th minute when he made a run from well inside his own half before expertly rolling the ball past the keeper with his favourite left foot.
City could have made it 4-0 when Haaland released Tijjani Reijnders with a clever pass, but the latter’s shot went just inches wide of the left post.
Mbeumo tried again with a first-time shot in the 80th minute, but he skyed it. In the 83rd minute, Mbeumo’s curler from outside the box went off target. The star came close to scoring from Amad Diallo’s cross, but Donnarumma was alert and saved it with his left foot.
Manchester United created a couple of chances in the last 10 minutes of the showdown but failed to convert them into goals. Man City moved to the eighth position in the league following their impressive victory. They now have six points from four matches.
Manchester City and Manchester United’s Shaky Starts to New Season
Both Manchester City and Manchester United had shaky starts to their new campaigns. Guardiola and Amorim strengthened their squads with new talent, but neither manager’s starting XI was yet a cohesive unit before this derby.

Amorim also had quality players who could easily win today’s match. Mbeumo has been scoring goals and creating goal-scoring opportunities since his arrival at the legendary English club.

Manchester United Results in the Last Two Premier League Matches
Manchester United beat Burnley 3-2 at Old Trafford on 30 August 2025. Bruno Fernandes became Man U’s hero in the Round 3 clash when he scored a late winner in the 90+7 minute. He scored from the penalty spot.
New signing Bryan Mbeumo also scored for United on the day. Amorim’s side’s first goal was a gift from Josh Cullen, who unfortunately scored in his own net.
In Round 2 of the Premier League on 24 August 2025, Manchester United was held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham. Again, Man U took the lead via an own goal in the 58th minute when Rodrigo Muniz scored in the wrong net.
Fulham’s Emile Smith Rowe equalised in the 73rd minute. Fernandes missed a first-half penalty in the clash.
