Cristiano Ronaldo scored a brace when Portugal thumped Armenia 5-0 in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier on Saturday, 6 September. Portugal collected their first three points at the start of their qualifying campaign.
Ronaldo, who is Portugal’s captain, netted his two goals in the 21st minute and in the 46th minute of the second half. João Felix, who is Ronaldo’s teammate at Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, also scored two goals in the showdown. João Cancelo also added his name to Portugal’s scoresheet.
After their impressive win, Roberto Martinez’s side are topping Group F with three points and a whopping five goals. Other nations in their group are Hungary and Ireland.
Has Portugal Lost in 2025?
In their last competitive match, Portugal was crowned the European heavyweights after beating Spain on penalties in the UEFA Nations League final on 8 June 2025. Seleção das Quinas have not lost in 2025.

Portugal has been in tough soccer battles with strong opponents, but managed to come out on top. Roberto Martínez’s team secured a 2-1 victory against another European giant, Germany, when they met in the semifinals of the UEFA Nations League on 4 June 2025.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s name was also on the scoresheet in that encounter. He scored Portugal’s winning goal in the 68th minute.
Armenia has not won any of their matches in 2025. Armenia drew 2-2 with Montenegro, lost 5-2 to Kosovo, and Georgia beat them 6-1. Georgia also thrashed them 3-0 in their first match on 20 March 2025.

Armenia vs Portugal: Last Two Matches
The two countries last met in 2015. On 13 June 2015, Portugal edged the home side 3-2 in the sixth round of the European qualifiers. Cristiano Ronaldo put on a show in the thrilling encounter. The soccer legend netted all three goals for his country.
In an earlier European qualifier played in Portugal on 14 November 2014, the home side edged their visitors 1-0. Again, Ronaldo sank the Armenians. He scored in the 72nd minute of the showdown.
