Lamine Yamal’s Spain demolished Bulgaria 3-0 in front of their home supporters in a 2026 World Cup qualifier on Thursday, 4 September. The match took place at Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia.
La Roja were in complete control in the first half of the encounter. They dictated the pace of the game and controlled possession, which created defensive problems for their opponents.

Spain scored in the first five minutes of the match. Real Sociedad forward Mikel Oyarzabal netted the first goal for Luis de la Fuente’s side. Chelsea star Marc Cucurella scored the second goal for the visitors in the 30th minute.

Bulgaria last played against the current European champions in 2002. Spain edged Bulgaria 1-0 in that friendly international on 20 November 2002. Spain also demolished Bulgaria 6-1 in a World Cup match on 24 June 1998.
Bulgaria also lost their last match 4-0. They took on Greece in a friendly international on 10 June 2025. A few days before that, Ilian Iliev’s side played a 2-2 draw with Cyprus on 6 June in another friendly international.
