Bayer Leverkusen faithful and former Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov have criticised the Bundesliga club for sacking Erik ten Hag after only two Bundesliga matches.

Bayer Leverkusen announced the sacking of the former Manchester United coach on Monday, 1 September. Leverkusen did not provide reasons for firing Erik ten Hag with immediate effect.
“Bayer 04 Leverkusen has parted ways with head coach Erik ten Hag with immediate effect. Training will be taken over by the assistant coaching staff for the time being.”
Dimitar Berbatov and Bayer Leverkusen Faithful React to Erik ten Hag Sacking
Taking to the comments section, Berbatov slammed Bayer Leverkusen for changing the coach in the early stages of the 2025/26 Bundesliga season. He said:
“Couple of things to consider here- selling the best players, not good start of the season, something is happening always behind closed doors that people don’t see! Of course, it’s not good to change the coach so early in the season, but @bayer04fussball have really high standards, now more than ever, after winning the Bundesliga! As it should be. Choose the next one carefully. Love u guys.”

“I don’t know what kind of coach is coming, but I already feel sorry for him lol. Selling off all the key players and expecting him to repeat last season’s performance is just asking too much.”
