Rio Ngumoha is hogging headlines after scoring a late winner for Liverpool on matchday two of the 2025/26 Premier League season.

How Old Is Rio Ngumoha?
The 16-year-old left winger stole all three points for Liverpool deep in stoppage time. The humdinger against Newcastle United finished 3-2 in favour of the visitors.
Ngumoha broke the home fans’ hearts at the eleventh hour. It was levelled at 2-2 when the rising star rose to the occasion with a world-class finish.
Ngumoha found himself unmarked in the box 10 minutes after the normal 90 and made no mistake. He gave the keeper no chance with his curling shot towards the right post. Mohamed Salah was credited with an assist after Ngumoha’s goal.

Taking to Instagram after the match, Liverpool confirmed that Ngumoha is their youngest goalscorer in the history of the club. The Premier League champions shared that Ngumoha is 16 years, 361 days old. The Reds captioned the post:
“Our youngest ever goalscorer.”
When Did Liverpool Sign Rio Ngumoha?
Rio Ngumoha, who has represented England at the junior level, started his career at the Chelsea academy. Some time back, he posted pics of himself playing for the Blues. He thanked Chelsea for allowing him to showcase his talent.
According to his other Instagram posts, he signed for Liverpool in September 2024 after representing Chelsea’s under-21 team. According to the BBC, Chelsea was upset when Ngumoha departed. Now the whole world knows why the Blues wanted to keep the youngster in their books.
