Maamma, who is in the books of Championship side Watford, helped Morocco lift their first ever FIFA U20 World Cup trophy in Chile. The creative and skilled forward played a crucial role for Morocco, from the group stages to the final against Argentina on 19 October 2025.
Morocco outclassed Argentina in the final, beating them 2-0 at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos in Santiago. Diego Placente’s side enjoyed a lion’s share of ball possession in the match, but Morocco scored the goals.

In their second match in the group stages, Morocco edged Brazil 2-1 on 2 October 2025. The young Brazilians were the favourites to win the match, but Othmane Maamma and his teammates stunned the world.
Maamma gave Morocco the lead in the 60th minute at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos. His goal gave the Moroccans the confidence to continue attacking, and they ultimately scored their second goal in the 76th minute.

Did Morocco Beat Spain?
Othmane Maamma played a pivotal role in Morocco’s opening match of the tournament at Estadio Nacional Julio Martinez Pradanos on 28 September 2025. Morocco brushed aside tournament favourites Spain 2-0.
After a 0-0 stalemate in the first half, Maamma used his intelligence and skills to unlock Spain’s defence in the second half. He produced the assist that led to Morocco’s second goal of the match. Gessime Yassine made it 2-0 from Maamma’s assist in the 58th minute.
