Lamine Yamal’s penalty was not enough to beat Rayo Vallecano on matchday three of the 2025/26 La Liga season. Hansi Flick’s team managed to get only one point from the fiercely contested encounter on Sunday, 31 August. The match ended in a 1-1 draw.
Yamal scored in the first half of the match, but supersub Fran Perez levelled matters for the home team in the second half. Barcelona are now two points behind league leaders Real Madrid, who have won all three games.
Lamine Yamal Wins Penalty for Barcelona
Yamal dribbled his way past a few defenders inside the box, forcing Pep Chavarria to make a reckless tackle. Unfortunately for Chavarria, the referee blew his whistle and pointed to the spot.
Yamal got up and took the penalty kick himself. The 18-year-old made no mistake and scored from the spot in the 40th minute. Before the end of the first half, Dani Olmo missed a perfect opportunity to put Barcelona 2-0 up after a flawless move. His shot skyed over the crossbar, and Hansi Flick lost it on the touchline.
Perez, off the bench, found himself in acres of space in the box and scored from Isi Palazon’s corner in the 67th minute. There was nothing that Joan Garcia could do to stop that shot from going in.

Has Barcelona Lost a Match in the 2025/26 La Liga Season?
Coming into this match, Flick’s squad of elite footballers had won both their league matches. They beat Mallorca 3-0 in their season opener on 16 August, and edged Levante 3-2 on 23 August.
They came back from 2-0 down in the first half and scored three goals in the second half. A bit of lady luck was on their side as they won the match via an own goal in the eleventh hour of the thrilling showdown.

Barcelona vs Rayo Vallecano: Last Two Matches
Barcelona collected all six points from Rayo in the previous season. They won both their home and away matches. On 27 August 2024, Barca came back from behind to win the encounter 2-1. Pedri and Dani Olmo netted for Flick’s side that day.
Barcelona edged Rayo 1-0 at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on 17 February. Robert Lewandowski scored the only goal of the match that night. He netted a penalty in the 28th minute of the first half.
